All volunteer positions in the guild are based on voluntarity. This thread has collected the principles of what that means in action. The principles apply to all positions in the guild.
If you are considering running for an official position, I recommend you to read these through. Some of the things are self-evident especially to older guild members, but it's always good to refresh your memory.
What does the guild expect from volunteers?
Active communication about successes, challenges and changes to plans. Volunteers usually plan and budget their own activities. Plans can usually be changed as long as the board is kept aware of the changes. If there is a rush, not everything needs to be done, but it should be reported. If you're busy, not everything has to be done but changes to plans should be reported.
Volunteers orientate their followers. Depending on the task, volunteers should document their activities adequately to make it easy for followers to continue the task the next year.
Development of the guild's and your own operations. You can reflect on your own role description in the long run for the years to come. Feedback should be given to the guild if there are clear points of development.
Take care of your friends. Help a friend if they need help and let us know if someone has too much on their plate.
What can volunteer expect from the guild?
The volunteer has the right to be informed of clearly defined responsibilities and expectations regarding them. Responsibilities should be flexible when need be according to the volunteer's wishes. There is no need to do guild activities 24/7 - you don't have to respond to messages right away.
You are allowed to fail in guild activities. Doing your best is always enough.
The guild makes sure that the volunteers have sufficient resources at their disposal. The guild will help with the space bookings and the expenses are to be paid back on time. The board organises things so that volunteers can spend as little time on administrative matters as possible.
The volunteers are entitled to adequate support. Each official has a designated board member who gives them help and support. The atmosphere should be one where you can say no. It is possible to give up any volunteer positions by notifying the board.
The volunteer has the right to receive feedback. Volunteers are commended for the work done, and developmental feedback is provided at least upon request.
The guild’s volunteer positions are equal. All positions will be openly applied for and the selection criteria for non-electoral positions must be clear.
